the dead of the night

the dead of night
comes quickly in the darkness
from streets miles away
running over hills and valleys
inviting you to stay
where the night hills call
and the morning whispers
theres a peace here near the sea
over long carved walls
you can hear the vespers
of the water calling to me
i am at peace
i am at peace
belive me
here
i am at peace
there are rivers running
in canyons deep
there are babbling brooks
singing me to sleep
helping me forget
in the dark i can not see
in the dark we are not free
the dead of night
comes quickly
in the colors of blood
the death of innocence
smells thickly
from beneath my hood
i am at peace
i am at peace
dear god
in heaven
i am at peace
they’ve taken
the dead night
they’ve taken
all hind sight
they’ve taken
it all out of me
but they didn’t take
my dignity
so when night
follows day
into the dark
bloody night
for freedom
from fear
i will stand up
and fight
