if we are in likeness

if g-d made man in his likeness
if we're supposedly like his highness
always at war with ourselves
his war is on our shelves
and we cannot be at peace
as long as we believe
we are any better than you
is there anything we can do
to make everyone see
change begins with you and me
there's one thing i know
no matter how deep you go
if there's a g-d or power above
the truth of g-d is love
and we would not be forsaken
simply for being mistaken
in which interpretation
we decide to read
why would we need
a greater purpose in life
for the pain and the strife
than to simply live well
to the best we can tell
from our g-d given mind
to return in kind
that which we expect
whatever comes next
true to ourselves
true to our love
true to whatever power
may be above
